Young people show books and tell about them on the Internet, what, in the past, was the role of the literature critic or teacher.

A camera on is enough to record a video and post on YouTube. What looks in the first impression a leasure can become a serious job. Called booktubers, young people that record a comment or opinion about a book, are moving the literature market with an informal mood. It calls attention because they are visualized for thousands people.

Isabella Sarcinelli, from “Lidolendo” channel, has 18.834 subscribers. “It was very weird because I never expected anything from the channel. I never thought that it would work. But, at the same time, that was weird, was grateful for me to know that people were enjoying what I did. I’m proud of it”, says her.

For Klébio Dama, from “Mundo Paralelo” channel, has 30.820 subscribers thinks that is weird too. “In my city, we don’t have the habit to see YouTube channels. So, I was the crazy one who speaks with a camera. People laughed and I thought to stop many times, but I ignored them. My literature channel grows up fastly and with 9 videos I had around 10 thousands people watching me, I started to recieve gifts from edithors, companies and go to events”.

The booktubers market is very profitable. Successful ones have partnership with edithors and receive book releases to share with their public. Klébio believes that it is very advantageous because creates new themes to produce videos. “I always need to have releases because everybody wants to know about the literature news. With the partnership, is possible to have books for free, but the bad aspect is the companies pressure because becomes something more serious than when you want to post videos just to distract”.

Tatiana Feltrim, one of the first booktubers in brazil, profits aroud U$ 300 per month just with the Adsense, that is an advertising habilited in videos. It is a truly profession.

The internet and the interactive way used by booktubers makes teenagers read more. “First of all, we didn’t have a big number of bookstores like now. Second, the only place where we have books for free were in library schools, but there were just classics books. Suddenly, when Harry Potter book came to brazil, in 2001, it opens doors for the forgotten literature teenagers and new authors”, explains Luciana Duenha Dimitrov, Literature Professor from Mackenzie University.

Isabella says that her videos encourage people to creating the reading habit. “I receive a lot of emails from all ages people telling that my channel makes them to start or restart the reading taste. The children are very connected to the virtual world, so a book video will come to them faster than a written criticism in a newspaper or in a magazine, this is an important factor for the booktubers influence people”, says her.

This influence affects people like Andreia Souza, engineer student, starts to watch books videos to interact with people who likes books too . “It’s an opportunity to know new authors and even literature events. I follow several channels and I like the way they speaks about a book and their personal opinions, expectations, what frustrates or not, what can improve or add”. She thinks it’s an excellent way to show ideas and share informations. She already bought books from booktubers indications.
